After a World Dies
Probably my favorite video I've done so far, one that's very personal to me, all about death, Minecraft, and Outer Wilds. Hope you enjoy because I certainly enjoyed making it. I was in an emotional rollercoaster playing Outer Wilds and 2b2t was a really fun topic to discuss because I'd been wanting to talk about it for a while now.
Anyhow

Hello again, It's been quite a while, as you can see this video is much longer than usual. You also may have noticed I've already made a video on liminal spaces in the past. But that video is old and outdated, the truth is I had a LOT more to say on the matter and wanted to reimagine that video since I love the concept of Liminal Spaces. Which is why this video is so long, but man making this v...

    A really unexpected game to give me this feeling is Universe Sandbox. I usually zoom out a lot when playing around with the black holes, because zooming in too close to them gives me this strange feeling of dread. And it’s usually only the black holes that give me this feeling. Also, fun fact! Irl black holes have no known size limit. There are real black holes out there bigger than our entire solar system.

    I'm late to the party on finding out about this subject. I've watched a few videos over the last couple days. What comes to mind for me is the feeling I get when looking at most of these pics is the same as when you're in an empty home, whether its yours and you're all packed up and moved out, or one you're perhaps looking to buy and everything is gone from the prior residents. What is weird to me is that I don't get the same feeling from a new, not previously occupied house as I do from one where people have lived. It makes me wonder if we don't perceive, on some level, the life that has been in these places, or normally would be, such as the wondering the halls in fourth grade example. I think we're capable of perceiving more than we know...

    Another magnificent upload and criminally underrated! There's just something so unique about old Minecraft structures. As you've stated, other games have this exploration scripted, whereas Minecraft is not, instead it is created by the people themselves, similar to what these other games are trying to replicate but aren't quite there yet. The human mind can imagine things that we could never be able to turn into words/visuals. It is possible that we feel such a strong connection to these random structures because our minds fill in the blanks. You see a castle that is half covered in cobblestone and the other half that has been ransacked for items and materials. You think to yourself "what did this place used to look like?" "What was the purpose?" etc. You then start to connect yourself to this structure in some way, despise you never having even seen it before. The personification of buildings always gets me. Take Kane Pixels "The Life Of A Giant" series (especially the final slideshow showcasing the real mall). Seeing photos of this mall being demolished brings me an unfathomable amount of dread, I can't even begin to describe what I felt when I first watched it while on holiday. I had never been to this mall or even America for that matter, but seeing that "giant" standing alone in a dark and falling apart mall just made me tear up. Maybe these structures should be left to interpretation, as the unknown is always more intriguing that the known.

    In the roblox game "The W" i was part of a battle between two teams that lasted for about 4hrs. Both teams had spent large quantities of time building infrastructure, fighting, sabotaging, and base building. Both teams peaked in player count at about 20 per team. The fighting was intense but eventually me and a team of players where able to build a bridge to the top floor of the enemy base (they based in an abandoned house). We were able to clear the base and defend the enemy team from regaining their lost base. Once the server declared that we won, me and my team went back to celebrate with the others then got off for the day. When I got on and returned later that week i actually found the ruins of my teams base. there was a new player using the garage as a rest spot because that was the largest part that was still mostly remaining after the base was disassembled by passing players. At that moment I understood exactly what this video means. To me it marked a time of energy and life but to all others it was just a hollow shell of concrete walls.

    The thumbnail takes me back to the exact playground I played in when my father took me to the park. I felt such a visceral wave of nostalgia the moment I glanced at it. I remember running across that rubber sheet bridge, climbing and stepping on that hose tangle ladder. I remember spinning those letter blocks around, making words out of them. Running through the tunnels under the towers playing tag with the other kids and feeling the wood pellets that made up the ground. Swinging from the metal monkey bars. And I know that I and any other kids will never have that experience again since they tore down and replaced that playground with a more "modern" and "safer" set. But seeing a picture of what those playgrounds were and look like makes me ache for when I was a kid again, running through that wooden jungle.

    Dude, what you were saying about being alone in the school spoke with me. I went to a very small catholic elementary/middle school 8 grades + kindergarten had maybe 100 people in it. In 8th grade we needed service hours so we would occasionally be sent to into the school after hours to pick something up, when the school was totally dark and no one else was there. It was such an exhilarating but also unsettling experience. When the familiar somehow also becomes very alien when you see it in a slightly different context.

    How I would describe it: It's empty, yet full. It's alive, but dead. Its theirs, but its mine, Its warm, but cold. It's home, but its strange. Its a hug, but a kick in the teeth. it's remembering, but forgetting. It is everything, but it is nothing.

    I said this once on another video about abandoned worlds. Dead Minecraft worlds have this unique quality most abandoned places don't have, they never degrade over time, stuff you left in a chest is in it's same place in the same condition, pets are still sitting in the same spot for years. The entire world is frozen in the same state you left it however many years ago you left it, like when a time traveler in a movie travels into the future, lives their life, and teleports back to the same place right after they left.

    • @goddessdeedeebubblesofimag7789
      @goddessdeedeebubblesofimag7789 10 годин тому

      "Pets are sitting in the same spot for years." One time, I tried to calculate how many years passed in Minecraft over the course of a single year in the real world. I did it for fun/for a very complicated Minecraft character I have; I'm not really gonna talk about that character very much cuz it's a LOT of Discord shenanigans and wither/witherstorm headcanons, but I will give just brief, small details, for context. Eventually I realized that you multiply the real-world year by 72 to get the number of Minecraft years, and... as it can probably easily be imagined... the numbers get big pretty quickly. 17×72 becomes 1,224, 46×72 equals 3,312, and 301×72 = 21,672. So imagine if you're part of the ancient race that once walked the earth of Minecraft. Had a dog, beloved dog, but forced to leave it behind with your home in the Overworld to serve your local militia in the Nether. Dying late enough to witness the news and feel the impact that the first creation of the Wither had on the world, with travel back to the Overworld suddenly forbidden, though dying without being given a chance to visit home ever again. On a battlefield of Soul Sand. ....Soul sand. Soul sand. And the dog.... waiting. Waiting for you, days becoming nights and nights becoming weeks and known intervals of time becoming blurred eternity. Since Minecraft is a video game, the dog never dies on its own. Something would have to kill it. Nothing ever does. So imagine how long it's had to wait by now. For an owner who's fate is unknown to it, for an owner who's never coming back. .......Uuuuuuuunnless some idiot modern-day Minecraft player obsessed with the Wither Storm from Minecraft: Story Mode (((me))) programs a command block to "adopt" the first Soul that enters it before building one and _said Soul just happens to be that dog's owner---_ And I refuse to elaborate further lmaoooo
